We know there are more things that we will have to start purchasing, but what are the basic
s? I mean, are a bunch of hair bows and headbands with flowers the size of her head...is that basic? (because I am already wanting to get those!) Are shoes part of the basics, when will I need those?Is
a Bobby a basic or extravagant? Can I get a baby swing and one of those small chairs that have music and vibrate too??? Or am I just being greedy??
The big baby store over here gave me a checklist for the "New Mom" and about 200 products later they said I'll be ready....HA, I say..HA!

The Boppy is ESSENTIAL if you are going to nurse. Also get an extra cover for it, because your baby will inevitably poop on it and you need a clean one while you wash the first. Shout is a basic, unless you want her to wear stained clothing - or you want to wear stained clothing. Burp cloths - essentially the tri-fold cloth diapers. You can get the swing and the chair - the chair is easier to take places with you - but you can survive without the chair. For us, the swing was essential - but get one that you can put a baby who can't hold her head up in. Those are my contributions for now :)
Hmmm, First baby I guess I had one of those once, I can hardly remember! be honest the boppy I didn't find all that helpful even when nursing so i'm not a good one to ask I guess.. and all kids are different I had one who would probably STILL be in the vibrating bouncy seat (they have music now.. nice!) at age 13, one loved the swing and one didn't like either.. so you'll probably end up with both after showers etc.. and you'll be able to save for the later ones so even if this little diva doesn't like them i'm sure you'll get use of them sometime!!!

I feel your pain; Dallan and I were so overwhelmed at the store registering... Taryn said that the most essential thing with McKenna was a diaper genie and a second car seat base so that's what we've done. A lady in our ward bought me a boppy and said it was essential and when I explained we were adopting and I wouldn't be breastfeeding she said she knew but it was still essential. They used it for tummy time and for supporting their baby so they didn't have to always hold him and when her husband had surgery he used it as a pillow instead of one of those donuts you sit on. Anyways... don't buy clothes; you'll get a ton of them!
I've always believed the most essential baby product available is ear plugs! Seriously. Dear Kenyon will have to wake me up if he wants to go back to sleep. After I've carried the baby for nine months, the next nine are his turn. ;-)
(I suggest you do the same, so that Kenyon doesn't get jealous of Brenton.)

We loved having a boppy! When Will started to get a little older we even used it to help him sit up on his own. I know how to make the headbands with the big flowers and clips if you ever want to learn how (it's a lot cheaper and its sometime you can work on now if you need a little project). Will loved the binky the hospital provided. I had bought a different kind, but he never took to it. So if you do buy something, just buy one maybe. It's such an exciting time for you guys!
The most basic thing and most important thing to buy is a SWING! And don't go cheap on it either buy the $100+ swing. This is where Livie was all the time. Need to vacume put them in the swing need to shower after DAYS of not showering put them in the swing! Make sure it goes side to side just not back and forth Fact: babies like the side to side motion that is how they were inside :) As far as the bows and cute stuff, you will get it when you have showers. Save your money, you will go threw A LOT of diapers.....And I do suggest a carseat ha ha ha
Consider a wooden rocking chair. Totally old fashioned, I know. You may not like it, but I will when I come to visit. Go take a few for a ride. Rock' on!
Let's see, Boppy for sure like everyone says and Wessy lived in his vibrating music chair, he was not much of a swing guy. But the comment on not going cheap is so true, a friend let me borrow one that went side to side and normal and (he was huge so...) when he got to 15 lbs. it wouldn't go anymore. So another friend gave me a nice just normal one and he kinda liked it more since it actually swang. As for a high chair...do not get the pretty wood E.B. kind. I was cute and matched all my other furniture untill he actually started eating in it. It is the hardest to clean and food falls out of all the slots, so I would get one that is more like a bucket seat that hugs them in place!

I found the Boppy to be more annoying then anything. I tried to use mine once...but to no avail; I am no fan of the Boppy. A swing however, I found works wonders. And in my opinion...you can never have to many giant flower sized head bands! I love those things! Plus it easily eliminates the "Is it a boy or qirl?" question. I think that the car seat is one of the most important things! Willow will be one on the 15th, and her car seat goes up to 30lbs, she is 25lbs right now. Some of the infant car seats only go to 22 or so pounds, so watch out for that. And I agree with the comment before mine...the E.B high chair is for looks only! We borrowed it from our friends and it is SOOO inconvienant to clean! Willow had couscous and peas today...and it got EVERYWHERE and I couldn't clean much of it up at all. (That's when I release my hounds, turn the other way and let them get to all of the discarded food). One more thing, just a thought...but the pacifier thing; we never used one with Willow. We figured we didn't want to have to break that habit later, so we never started it, and it was great! I think that's all I can think of now. Hope you guys are great!!!
